The Department of City and Regional Planning (CRP) in the College of Architecture, Art, and, Planning at Cornell University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin on July 1, 2020.
We seek applicants whose research and teaching address community development and urban transformations, in the US and internationally. This position will focus on community and identity formation, questions of difference, equity, and exclusivity in the city. We seek candidates with strengths in theory, practice, engagement and/or activism. This hire is supported by CIVIC (Critical Inquiry into Values, Imagination and Culture), the Cornell provost’s radical collaboration task force in the Humanities and the Arts, which targets faculty hires in the fields of public life and media. As such, the successful candidate is expected to take advantage of the ability to collaborate with colleges, departments, and entities across the university.
In CRP we study, teach, and practice planning as a diverse and integrative, applied and change-oriented discipline, seeking as we do so a more just and efficient, sustainable, and beautiful world. The department has as its goal to promote vibrant communities, urban sustainability, and social equity through its teaching, research and public engagement. Successful applicants for this position must demonstrate high-quality research, the ability to secure external funding, and a commitment to excellent teaching and mentoring. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in urban/regional planning, or a related field (e.g., geography, public policy, urban studies). We anticipate that candidates for this position will be able to teach a combination of workshop, lecture, and seminar courses. Scholars with various forms of experience are of interest, including that of navigating, interpreting and analyzing data streams. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
